Job Title: Accounting Specialist
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Location: Tucson, AZ (100% Onsite)
Compensation: $23-$27/hr + Benefits

Position Overview

A mission-driven organization is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support daily accounting operations and help ensure accurate, timely financial reporting. This is a hands-on accounting role working closely with finance leadership and supporting a variety of accounting functions including AP, AR, reconciliations, payroll support, sales tax filings, and month-end close activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process daily Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and company credit card transactions
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, investment, payroll, and operational accounts
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
  • Prepare and submit monthly sales tax filings
  • Process incoming payments via check, credit card, and EFT
  • Prepare and record bank deposits
  • Generate financial reports as requested
  • Set up and maintain vendor records
  • Collect W-9 documentation and assist with annual 1099 preparation
  • Maintain accurate accounting records, spreadsheets, journals, receipts, and invoices
  • Support audits and financial reporting requirements
  • Assist with special projects and additional accounting duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on accounting experience
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field OR equivalent accounting experience
  • Strong QuickBooks Online experience required
  • Strong Excel skills required
  • Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and accounting close activities
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nonprofit accounting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Experience with accounting automation tools such as SaasAnt
  • Exposure to audits and financial reporting
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
